2D Pixel MMORPG Tibia Is Given The Gift Of Sound For Its 25th Birthday
2022 is shaping up to be the years of classic Tibia, one of the longest-running MMORPGs, is getting some much-deserved attention today as the game celebrates its 25th birthday.
“Unbelievable! Tibia now exists for a quarter of a century. Some of you have been on this journey with us for many years. We have grown together. We have shared happy times, times of discussions and arguments, and sad times, too, however, now, it is foremost time to celebrate and to be nostalgic together - but also time to embrace the new. Contrasting, just as Tibia has been since the year one. Sounds like music to your ears? To ours, too!”
To celebrate the milestone, developer CipSoft is adding something that has been missing from the top-down 2D pixel MMORPG since the first server went online in 1997 – sound effects and music. “CipSoft thanks its loyal community and announces a big surprise: Tibia will get sound for the first time!” revealed the team.
Players will also have a chance to play with the studio’s founders in a special event called the Pantibian Festival. Here’s how it works:
“Collect Theons – special tokens – in order to become part of a group of players who will soon be able to play alongside the four founders of CipSoft, the Gods of Tibia: Steve, Stephan, Guido and Durin.”
According to CipSoft, the game has pulled in €200 million (roughly $227 million) in its 25 years of operation. Not bad for a 25-year-old heh? You can take a look at where some of that cash went in the official Tibia 25th anniversary trailer below.
