Ashes Of Creation Will Be Upgrading To UE5, Shows Off New Engine Footage
With Unreal Engine 5 nearing full release, Intrepid Studios is now working on upgrading Ashes of Creation to the latest version of Epic Games proprietary game engine. Creative Director Steven Sharif offers a preview of what the PvP sandbox MMORPG will look like in UE5 in the studio’s latest dev update.
During the stream, Sharif highlighted UE5’s new Lumen lighting and Nanite LOD technology while also giving fans a glimpse of some of the combat updates that the team has also been working on. He also showed off the new climbing mechanic that will allow players to climb up low walls in the game.
Apart from better visuals, he also pointed out the other benefits of switching to UE5. Among these other benefits is the potential to have more characters on-screen at the same time and less limitations in building vast open-world maps. Obviously, it’s going to take a while before the team can transition to the new engine. Sharif says that they’ll need at least a few months to prepare and make the actual transition but also promises that it should result in significant improvements to the development process.
You’ll find both the dev vlog and the UE5 walkthrough video right after the jump. Meanwhile, the team is gearing up for the start of Alpha Two next year. Stay tuned for the official schedule.
