Ancient Footage Of A Cancelled Call Of Duty Game In Space Has Been Leaked

Before Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare came out, there was apparently another Call of Duty game in development that featured the same sci-fi theme. Two videos featuring ancient footage of a cancelled Call of Duty game called Future Warfare have been leaked on X, both of which have been confirmed to be authentic by a former Neversoft senior developer who had worked on it.

The first video shows a two-minute screen capture of the game’s main menu and the first few minutes of a mission called Moonbase Assault. The mission starts off with a cutscene (as COD missions always do) where the player’s space suit is breached during a firefight outside of a moon base that’s under attack by unknown forces.

The second one features a 45-second clip of what is reportedly a multiplayer match set in the ruins of a desert town. The clip follows a player around as they spray and pray fully automatic dual Glock 18 pistols on an unsuspecting before being gunned down from behind. It also offers a glimpse of sniper gameplay with a futuristic rifle before the players is shot point blank in the face.

Former Neversoft developer Brian Bright attested to the authenticity of both videos, saying that it was indeed NX1, the studios codename for the project. “After [Infinity Ward] imploded and split into Respawn, Neversoft pivoted from Guitar Hero to make a futuristic COD game. This mission was on the moon, some experiments with low G and was really about the team learning the engine,” he tweeted.

“I believe this would have been in place of Ghosts, trying to . We had 2-3 campaign missions, and a bunch of MP work done (I was mp lead on this) before cancellation,” he added.

As for the multiplayer map, Bright believes that it may have been called Sandstorm. He added that Future Warfare would have featured an “Escort” game mode, a mode that wouldn’t be officially introduced Black Ops: Cold War came out in 2020. “There’s footage out there on this,” he teased.

The idea of a Call of Duty in space would eventually come to life as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016 but hasn’t been revisited since then. However, with Activision’s current fixation on remaking old Call of Duty games, there’s a small possibility that we might just see another sci-fi Call of Duty in the works.
