Dual Universe Rolls Out The First Phase Of Its Biggest Beta Update

Dual Universe update since the space sandbox MMO launched into beta last summer. Patch 0.24 features the first stage of the studio’s ongoing graphical update, new voxel building features, the addition of organization wallets, and improvements to jetpack behavior.

The first phase of the visual update focuses focuses on improving biomes by making them more “visually diversified.” This includes new tree and rock models, more realistic ground textures, new night lighting, and improved rendering.

New building options have also been introduced in the form of cone and line voxels. “One of the most compelling aspects of Dual Universe is its fully editable world,” said Novaquark. “Through the art of manipulating voxel structures known as voxelmancy, the possibilities for channeling your creativity are endless. Our goal is to provide the players with as many tools as possible to edit voxel shapes, and we want these tools to be -friendly and efficient.”

The new Organization wallets also offers a more convenient way for organizations to share and pool resources by making it easier to transfer money between different organizations and even between individual players. Transfers will require a minimum amount of 1,000 Quanta and will have a 10 minute cooldown for transfers between the same party to prevent griefing by spamming wallet logs.

“All players can give any amount of quanta to any other player or organization. Players with the necessary wallet rights of an organization can also transfer money from the organization wallet to any other entity. Transfers are tracked in the wallet logs of both the sender and the recipient,” the studio explained.

The new organization wallet will also come in handy once players start raking in Quanta through the new mission system, which unfortunately needs more work and has been pushed back to a later phase of the update.

Update 0.24 also adds more functionality to jetpacks with the addition of a toggle key. Jetpacks can now be toggled on and off depending on the situation. In addition to the toggle key, players with activated jetpacks will no longer be affected by the artificial gravity of a construct or structure and will be free to glide along the corridors of their space station should they choose to do so, although they’ll need to get permission if they want to do it in another player’s structure.

“[. . .] Maybe you don’t want anybody to be able to enjoy a smooth glide around your construct. Maybe you built a space Ninja Warrior parkour course and jetpacking through it would be cheating,” they quipped. “We’re adding the ‘Right to use jetpack’ to the Right and Duty Management System (RDMS). Only people with this right can use the jetpack and break free from the artificial gravity field of your construct. We recommend casually drifting in front of those who don’t have it to mock them… But that’s up to you!”
