Elder Scrolls Online’s Gold Road Chapter Takes Players To Oblivion’s West Weald

As promised, ZeniMax Online Studios has officially taken the wraps off Elder Scrolls Online’s next chapter release in a global reveal stream earlier today. The next chapter, dubbed Gold Road, will take players back to the familiar landscapes of West Weald from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and will feature a reimagined version of the quaint mountain town of Skingrad a thousand years before the events of Oblivion.

West Weald will also feature diverse biomes, from the high-fantasy-inspired Colovian Highlands around Skingrad to the deciduous forest of the Gold Road and the lush tropical jungles of Valenwood. Players will also get to explore the Gold Coast and its perpetually autumn sceneries.

The chapter itself will include the usual expansion staples, including a new overarching storyline, a new 12-player trial, new dungeons and delves, and new world events. New companions have also traditionally been included in past chapter releases, but they’ve been pushed back to the last quarter or the year for more polish.

Gold Road’s narrative will pick up from where the events left off in Necrom and will revolve around the forgotten Daedric Prince (Princess), Ithelia, whose impending return results in an entire tropical jungle sprouting in Valenwood overnight. As players progress through the storyline, they’ll go up against a Bosmer sect that’s leveraging the ensuing chaos to restore Ithelia’s powers.

The chapter will also introduce epilogue-styled “capper” quests that will neatly wrap up the Necrom and Gold Road story arcs.

Prior to Gold Road’s launch, players can look forward to the release of Update 41 which will introduce a new skill customization system called Scribing and a treasure hunting event called Styling that will offer unlockable in-game effects. ZeniMax will be diving deeper into the update’s new features and content in a preview stream on January 26.

Gold Road is set to arrive on PC and Mac on June 3 followed by PlayStation and Xbox console releases on June 18. In the meantime, you can check out the full reveal stream below.
