Guild Wars 2 Teases Legendary Relics Coming In Secrets Of The Obscure’s Third Update
ArenaNet is expanding Guild Wars 2: Secrets of The Obscure’s relic system with the addition of craftable legendary variants. The new Legendary Relics will be making their way to the game as part of the expansion’s third major update, which the studio says “isn’t far away.”
“Relics are a new category of equipment that we added with the expansion’s launch in August of 2023,” ArenaNet explains. “Upon acquisition, legendary relics can be equipped by all characters on an simultaneously, allowing players to freely swap between relic effects. […] Any player who has already crafted at least one legendary rune will be granted a legendary relic for free.”
The team also plans to add restrictions on the use of legendary relics to encourage players to take on new expansion content. “[…] From a rewards, economy, and experience-design standpoint, we think it makes sense to ask players to actually engage with new content in order to make use of its new combat offerings,” they said. “So, for relics only—and starting with the fifth expansion—new relic effects will need to be unlocked within each expansion in order to be accessible via legendary relics.”
ArenaNet has yet to lock in a date for the update’s release, but the roap offers a vague launch of sometime before the end of winter if everything goes according to plan. More information is promised within a few weeks. In the meantime, you can read up on Legendary Relics on the Guild Wars 2 official site.
