New ARK: Survival Evolved Patch Adds Five New Dinos, Harpoon Gun

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 258 is here, bringing with it five new dinos and several new items that help survivors brave the game's seas. Players can now craft a new harpoon gun that can be used to fight underwater creatures, as well as a "gas-powered metal motorboat" that can help them travel across the sea more quickly.

New dinos include the "Hyaenodon Dirus," which is a pack animal that "often prefers not to fight unless there is already weakened prey or a fresh carcass nearby"; it is too small to be used as a mount, but its intelligence makes it a great pet that is easy to train. The "Megatherium Formipavor" is a large mammal that is both an herbivore and an insectivore that goes from being "slow and peaceful" to "faster and aggressive" when insects are around. The "Megalania Muruspede" is a reptile found in the Island's caves that can grow up to three meters long; it is poisonous, but also an adept climber, making it a "highly sought-after mount." The "Hesperornis Avenatantes" is a "fish-eating bird" that is found in the Island's rivers and lakes; it will occasionally lay golden eggs that help with training "all creatures, especially those which are too small to be ridden." The "Yutyrannus Saevus" resembles a feathered Tyrannosaurus Rex; its roar can induce fear in its enemies while also "bolstering the resolve of its allies."
