Palworld Lost 70% Of Its Players Since Launch, The Biggest Two-Week Drop In Steam History

Palworld has seen a significant drop in its player count since it set an all-time high of 2.1 million players a little over two weeks ago. Peak daily concurrency is now down by roughly 70% to just 610,050 players as of this writing, making it the biggest two-week drop in Steam’s history.

It’s quite the step-down, but the Pokémon-with-guns survival title is still the second most-played game on Steam with a slight lead over Dota 2. Counter-Strike 2, however, has managed to pull away with a 24-hour peak of 1 million concurrent players.

After its meteoric rise to fame, the hype had to die down at some point. I just wasn’t expecting it to be that quick. By comparison, PUBG: Battlegrounds reached an all-time peak concurrency of over 3.2 million players when it launched in 2018. It’s still holding strong at around 500,000 active players at any given time, but it took around four months for the popular battle royale shooter to lose the same amount of active players.

It’s worth noting that Palworld is also available on Xbox and is also one of the games included with a Game subscription, so its total player count will be significantly higher. Based on Pocket Pair’s sales report, Xbox players make up roughly 36% of the game’s entire playerbase outside of those with Game subscriptions.

We’ll likely see a surge in active players once Palworld’s next major update arrives. New features in the pipeline include PvP, raid bosses, a Pal vs. Pal arena, cross-play between PC and Xbox, and new islands, among others.
