RuneScape Mobile Is Now Live On Android And iOS, Servers Swamped At Launch

RuneScape Mobile is now live on Android and iOS offering full cross-platform play and cross-progression between PC and mobile devices. Unfortunately, with over 1.8 million pre-ed s waiting to get in, the servers are having a hard time coping with the demand, proving once again that popularity can be a double-edged sword if not handled correctly.

“Due to a high volume of players ing RuneScape on mobile devices, we're currently experiencing some issues that may be causing slow loading or problems logging in,” tweeted Jagex just a few hours after launch. PC players also reported issues because of the overloaded servers.

The team rolled out several updates and hotfixes in the hours following the game’s official launch and have worked with Google to allow more Google s to at the same time, which seem to have mostly fixed the problem.

“While most issues, have been mitigated at this time, we’ll be continuing to work on further improvements based on yesterday’s learnings,” assured the team.

RuneScape Mobile was first announced in 2017 and was originally slated to launch in 2018. Launch was delayed by a few years as the team worked to come up with the perfect control scheme and UI to bring the classic PC MMORPG to mobile.

“RuneScape’s expansion onto mobile brings full cross-platform play and progression to the game, enabling players to jump from PC to mobile platforms and back again. It comes complete with all the quests, characters, lore and locations from the living game’s 20-year history. New players can also experience RuneScape hip benefits by claiming a free 7-day trial.”
