RuneScape Will Temporarily Make Boss Deaths Free Starting On December 6

Death in Jagex will be removing the penalties and costs of dying to specific bosses as part of Frank’s Free Death event. The event will run until January 3rd and will feature a different set of bosses per week.

The event will allow players to familiarize themselves with bosses that they otherwise wouldn’t dare to take on and will give the developers a chance to gather data to improve the game’s death system, which they it could use a whole lot of improvement.

“We've been offering these free deaths effectively as an ission that our death system doesn't really work that well, especially when it comes to learning tricky new bosses,” explained Jagex. “Death is not only a problem in of costs for the top PvM players, it's also a barrier to casual or mid-tier players trying PvM, as they either don't understand how death works or worry about losing money.”

“This is the first step on a long journey toward understanding all of the complexities around reworking death in RuneScape. And it’s a journey we’ve been on for a long time, as we’ve been working through a ton of players on the issue,” added the studio. “The more we learn, the better equipped we will be to provide a solution.”
