Swords Of Legends Online Players Run Into Issues During Name Reservation, Devs Say ‘No Wipe’
“Character name unavailable/already in use.” - one of the most frustrating messages a gamer can encounter when creating a new character, especially those who have been going by a certain name for a long time. That message was what Swords of Legends Online players were hoping to avoid when they logged in last Friday to reserve their character names in preparation for the game’s official launch later this week.
Several players, however, ran into Gameforge ticket is invalid or has expired. authentication has failed. Please try again later.” This resulted in character names being “stolen”, which naturally resulted in a backlash from affected players and demands for a server wipe or rollback to give everyone an equal chance to reserve their names.
Unfortunately, Gameforge felt that it was in everyone’s best interest to just leave things as they are. “We have, after a lengthy discussion, come to the decision NOT to wipe,” tweeted the team. “It was a very tough decision to make, as neither would have made everyone happy. Nonetheless, we believe this to be the best option.”
“You are right to be disappointed, so are we. The whole undertaking obviously went off the rails in an unfortunate manner and we now have to step up and learn from the data we've collected today,” they added.
While some players were obviously disappointed by the decision, most seem to have taken it in stride and even gave Gameforge a pat on the back for their quick response. “Better to happen now then launch,” said one . “This is coming from someone who didn’t get a single name they were hoping to get so lol.”
Swords of Legends Online officially launches on Steam this Friday, July 9 and is still available for pre-purchase starting at $39.99.
