Total War: Arena Patch 10 Fixes Soft Collisions, More

While still in closed alpha and far from the limelight currently, Total War: Arena is pressing on as the more promising of the two free-to-play online Total War games currently in development. An update about Patch 10 posted the other day reveals that major changes are still being made and that many of the game's nuances are still in developmental flux.

The most prominent change for this patch is a fix for "pull-throughs" or "soft collisions." Previously, it was possible to "pull" your units through enemy units by repeatedly giving a move order until the unit ed through. With this fix, you can no longer move through enemy units unless you charge and knock down every soldier that is a part of that unit. If you don't move away from that unit after knocking them all down, you will be stuck within that unit, a design decision made specifically to affect the way players use cavalry units.

Rewards have also been reworked entirely, including a victory bonus for the winning team, granting extra XP per unit and per base capture. A full rundown of the new system can be viewed at the link above but the important thing to note is that the rewards have been changed to promote teamwork. Two of the changes made to achieve this goal are introducing a range limit to team rewards and punishing players more harshly for non-deployable friendly fire.

Many smaller changes have also been made, such as improvements to floating combat text, penalties for missile units in forests, AFK player detection, and more.
