Wargaming Helps Out Employees Caught In Ukrainian Conflict, Donates $1M To Aid Humanitarian Efforts
It’s hard for video game companies to not get caught up in the politics of the ongoing war in Ukraine considering that gamers are located all across the globe and come from all walks of life. It’s particularly harder for European developers like Wargaming who have studios and offices located in and around the conflict areas of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.
The company is currently offering for employees and their families who are stuck in the rapidly expanding warzone and will be donating $1 million to aid humanitarian efforts.
“At Wargaming, the safety and security of our employees is the top priority,” the company told GamesIndustry.biz. “Currently, all available company resources are helping and ing our 550+ colleagues: providing them with alternate housing, early salary payments, additional funds to aid travel and relocation. […] We are helping our employees’ families to travel to neighbouring countries and organising accommodation for them.”
“Today Wargaming Kyiv is donating $1 million to the Ukrainian Red Cross. These funds will be used to Ukrainian hospitals and doctors, those citizens who have been displaced and other vital activities of the humanitarian organisation as is needed,” they added.
Wargaming also happens to be the creator and publisher of popular war-themed MMOs such as World of Warplanes and have announced that they will be pausing war-related ments and have asked all marketers, content creators, and influencers to remove and banners or ads showing military equipment due to “the situation in the world.”
Creative Director Sergei Burkatovsky was also fired Saturday following his pro-invasion post on his Facebook . “Sergei’s opinion is in complete contradiction with the company’s position. He is no longer an employee of Wargaming,” said the company in their official statement.
We’ve been receiving many requests from our players and partners regarding our Persha Studio / Wargaming Kyiv employees.
