Blizzard Confirms Plans To Open A World Of Warcraft Classic Permadeath Server

It seems like the MMORPG community is always looking for new ways to spice up their favorite games, and World of Warcraft Classic players are no exception. In fact, some guilds have taken the challenge to a whole new level by creating a hardcore mode, where they impose permadeath mechanics on themselves.

For those unfamiliar with the mechanic, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like: if your character dies, it’s game over and you’ll have to start from scratch. It’s a high-risk, high-reward way to play that’s definitely not for everyone as it requires a lot of skill and strategy, not to mention the loss of hours upon hours of progress should you meet an untimely demise.

Back in March, dataminers discovered hints that Blizzard might be planning to introduce an official hardcore mode which understandably got fans excited. Those rumors have now been confirmed with the announcement of a Hardcore Classic server. The said announcement was light on specifics but it does promise more information to be released soon.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Blizzard has taken cues from the community. WoW Classic itself was born out of player demand for a throwback to the game’s early days. And with the introduction of the Classic Hardcore server, it seems that Blizzard is once again recognizing the creativity and ion of their playerbase.

For those who have already dabbled in the hardcore mode, the official server will be a welcome addition. And for those who are curious but haven’t tried it yet, you’ll soon be able to jump in and experience the thrill of permadeath firsthand.

We’ll let you know as soon as Blizzard announced a release date, or at least a timeline for the opening of the new hardcore server.
