World Of Warcraft Classic Gears Up For The Opening Of Its Hardcore Realms

We’re now just two weeks away from the opening of the new permadeath servers.

“[…] The gist of it is that once you’ve been bested by the environment (or even other players), you’ll need to create a new character to try again,” Blizzard explained. “Death is permanent, and when you die, the Spirit Healers won’t be there to send you back into the world of the living. No rezzes, no regrets. When you’re on the Classic Hardcore realms, you’ll get to prove that you have the edge, the grit, and the will to survive.”

The team also provided more information about the hardcore realms in this Rules of Engagement dev blog. Worth noting is that PvP is opt-in and you’ll need to flag yourself manually to limit flagging abuse. Battlegrounds will also be disabled and quests that require PvP or death to complete will no longer do so. Bubbling and reincarnation will also be removed while buffs and debuffs will have their cap removed. Hardcore players will also be able to challenge each other to duels to the death for ultimate bragging rights.

Should you die, you’ll have the option to transfer your slain character to one of the non-permadeath classic servers. It also goes without saying that you’ll need an active subscription to play on the hardcore servers, or any of the live classic and retail servers for that matter.
