Blizzard Offers A Refresher On Wrath Of The Lich King Classic’s Starting Zones

It’s time for a little dose of nostalgia as Blizzard previews the two zones where players will start their journey into Northrend when Wrath of the Lich King Classic comes out next month. The new dev blog offers a refresher course on the frigid wastelands of the Borean Tundra and the forested cliffs of the Howling Fjord.

Players will be able to start their arduous expedition to the Icecrown Citadel in either the Borean Tundra or the Howling Fjord regardless of their faction, although they do need to be at least level 68 to be able to take on the mobs and quests in either of the two zones. Both factions have a stronghold in each zone: the Alliance have Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra and Valgarde Keep in Howling Fjord, while the Horde have Warsong Hold and New Agamand.

Players who choose the Borean Tundra as their starting point will come across the Taunka, the ancient relatives of the Tauren; the Tuskarr, the Drakkari Ice Trolls, and the armies of the Undead Scourge. Those who start in the Howling Fjord, on the other hand, will come face to face with the ancient race of giants called the Vrykul.

It doesn’t really matter which zone you choose since both questlines will eventually lead to the Icecrown Citadel but they each offer different experiences, although Borean Tundra has proven to be the faster route level-wise. You’ll get to make that choice when Wrath of the Lich King Classic launches on September 26th.

Meanwhile, beta testing has started for the expansion’s pre-patch which includes the zombie plague event that kick starts the journey to Northrend.
