Grinding Gear Games was founded in 2006 by a group of online role-playing game veterans from different countries and is currently based in Auckland, New Zealand. The company crowd-funded their flagship and breakthrough game, Path of Exile, and was able to raise $245,000 in just six days and a total of $2.2 Million during its closed beta. The game was released in January 2013, and, by the end of February 2014, had five million ed subscribers. The game was also named “Best PC Role-Playing Game” by IGN in 2013 and “PC Game of the Year” by Gamespot in the same year. The company has also partnered with gaming hardware and software giant, Razer, to promote their products.
