Development History / Background:
Dragon's Dogma Online was developed by the Japanese game developer Capcom and is the first MMORPG in the Dragon's Dogma franchise. Development for Dragon's Dogma Online began after Capcom finished developed the Dark Arisen expansion for the original Dragon's Dogma game. Dragon's Dogma Online was officially announced on January 27, 2015 and is free-to-play. The game will multi-platform play on the same game server through PC, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4. The game's early access special edition launches on August 27, 2015 with full release on August 31, 2015. These release dates are for Japan only. Dragon's Dogma is one of the few console free-to-play MMORPGs along with Cryptic Studios.
Those looking for a Western release of Dragon's Dogma Online will need to wait as nothing has been announced from Capcom about an English release just yet.
Dragons Dogma Online announced that it will shut down for good on December 5, 2019. It never launched outside of Japan.
