Albion Online Talks Up Fortifications And New Territory Mechanics Coming This Month
Sandbox Interactive dives deeper into the new territory raiding mechanics coming to Albion Online when its Foundation update arrives on April 15. The highlight of the update is the new fortification system that will allow guilds to build walls and gates to help defend their territories against raiders and buy them some time to for reinforcements to arrive.
Guilds will be able to choose from five different fortification layouts, each offering different challenges and obstacles for attackers to go through. Fortification pieces and territory guards can be upgraded using fortification points that are automatically generated based on a territory’s level.
The Foundation update will also introduce another new territory mechanic called Siege Banners to further encourage territory fights during prime time. It basically works like capture-the-flag where attackers will need to bring a siege banner to a territory tower and keep it activated to weaken the territory’s shields. Defenders, on the other hand, will need to kill the bannerman and hold on to the siege banner until it despawns.
Another way that Sandbox Interactive will be encouraging prime time territory battles is with the addition of territory chests that fill up with goodies based on the level of activity in and around the territory. The chest can be opened by either the guild controlling the territory or by raiders who manage to successfully sneak into the territory fort or raze it to the ground.
Game Director Robin Henkys shares more information about the new fortification system while lounging in his comfy director’s chair in the video below and in this blog post.
