Bungie Layoffs Lead To Project Delays, Destiny 2 Expansion And Marathon Shooter Included
Bungie is the latest studio to succumb to the financial challenges sweeping across the video game and tech industries. The Sony-owned company has reportedly suffered massive layoffs resulting in delayed projects and updates.
Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion has been delayed from February 2024 to June 2024. Bungie’s extraction shooter Marathon has also been pushed all the way back to 2025.
It’s unclear how many employees were affected by the layoffs at Bungie, but they’re only one part of Sony’s larger company-wide downsizing efforts. Other studios that were hit by layoffs include Media Molecule, Naughty Dog, and Visual Arts, all of which have also been forced to delay ongoing projects.
Destiny 2 developer Bungie is the latest PlayStation studio to have layoffs. Full scope isn't clear yet, but CEO Pete Parsons emailed the company this morning to say they'll be having a team meeting today to talk about "some news today coming out of Bungie" as staff are informed
