Classic MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot Adds Free To Play Option

Dark Age of Camelot, or DAoC for short, has been a subscription based MMORPG since its release way back in 2001. A pioneer of faction based PvP, DAoC is still ed today for its large scale Realm Wars. Now both new and old players can experience the 18 year old MMORPG for free thanks to a new tier called Endless Conquest.

The new tier grants players access to both the PvP and PvE servers, and all zones available in the game, as stated in the official FAQ:

What types of gameplay can I experience on an Endless Conquest ?

Endless Conquest s can access all zone regions that Veteran (subscribed) s can, participate in normal PvE and Epic quests, all dungeons and instance encounters, the Otherworlds and Dragon’s Curse campaigns, obtain Artifacts and Master Levels and Abilities in Trials of Atlantis, earn Champion Levels (but not Champion abilities), earn all loot (except alternate currencies), participate in Holiday events (except receive gifts), and can use the Bountycrafting tradeskill (but no others).

Most importantly, Endless Conquest s can earn Bounty and Realm points and fully participate in Realm vs Realm combat in Celestius, Darkness Falls, the Labyrinth, age of Conflict, all Battlegrounds, and in the Frontiers!

There are, however, several significant restrictions placed on 'Endless Combat' s. Player housing is off limits, as are all but one trade skill. Most importantly, free players only have access to a restricted list of classes and races:

Albion Classes: Cleric, Friar, Paladin, Sorcerer, Mercenary
Albion Races: Briton, Avalonian, Highlander

Midgard Classes: Shaman, Healer, Valkyrie, Runemaster, Berserker
Midgard Races: Norse, Dwarf, Troll

Hibernia Classes: Druid, Warden, Bard, Mentalist, Blademaster
Hibernia Races: Celt, Elf, Firbolg

While that roster may look impressive, it only represents half of the races and less than a third of the classes available in DAoC. Prospective players should check out the full FAQ to learn more.

Dark Age of Camelot was originally developed by Mythic Entertainment which was later purchased by Electronic Arts. In 2014 EA shuttered Mythic, transferring management of of DAoC to Broadsword Entertainment.
