Diablo Immortal Player Destroys $15K Max Rank Legendary Gem

A YouTube streamer recently drew attention to Diablo Immortal’s controversial Elder Rifts in search of a Rank 1 5-Star Legendary Gem. He would purchase Legendary Crests using funds donated by his viewers to ensure gems drop during for each run.

“Once you get to the loot boxes, you’re going to need to get your credit card out, it’s gonna cost about 27 dollars equalling about 400 dollars a day, but that’s fine because you get an extra two percent damage…,” he mockingly narrated during the stream.

According to PCGamesN, by the time Quin69 finally got the 5-Star gem he had already spent a total of $25,165 NZD. Once he got his hands on the rarest gem in the game, he promptly quit and uninstalled it from his PC. Egged on by his viewers, he decides to send a clearer message to Blizzard by reinstalling the game, destroying the $16,000 gem, deleting his character, uninstalling for the second time, and finally flipping off Blizzard live during the stream.

Some Diablo Immortal players believe that stunts like these contribute to the problem since he already handed a big pile of cash to Blizzard regardless of his intentions. Others, however, thanked Quin69 for his efforts to reveal the money-grabbing nature of the game’s microtransaction system in general and discouraging them from spending their hard-earned money on Legendary Crests.
