Dual Universe Kickstarter Begins

Dual Universe is now live on Kickstarter and developer Novaquark is asking for $557,818 to make the ambitious MMO concept a reality. Through the Kickstarter, prospective players can get a hold of the game for a mere €12. The game will, however, launch as a subscription title and higher pledge tiers contain more Dual Access Coupons, which can be activated for 30 days of play or sold on the in-game marketplace. There are also tiers that include Alpha and Closed Beta access, but the cheapest are €100 and €60, respectively.

Novaquark Founder and President Jean-Christophe Baillie had the following to say about the announcement.

Because with innovation comes risk, most publishers don’t take the chance to creative projects like Dual Universe. The game is a revolutionary take on the MMO genre, enough to make it difficult to finance by conventional means. For the past three years we have been funded privately, keeping our independence to develop ground-breaking technology. To complete our vision, we need the community’s for Dual Universe, in order to remain independent and move forward in the direction of the game we all want to make. The more backing we will have, the stronger we will be, and the more independent we can remain.

At the time of writing, Dual Universe has garnered $66,172 and the counter is ticking upwards regularly. It seems that the Kickstarter is off to a great start and, if all goes well, the Kickstarter rewards make it seem as if the team is looking to release the game by the end of 2018. It's an ambitious project, but that is perhaps why it has the potential to raise what it's asking for.
