Dual Universe’s Athena Update Will Be The Last Major Update Before Full Release
Dual Universe’s PvP-focused Athena update will be rolling out on the public test server next week and, according to Novaquark, will be the last major update before the sci-fi MMO’s full release. The PTS will be open from March 31st at 2:00am PDT until April 4th at 2:00am PDT.
As we previously noted, the Athena update will shake up the PvP scene by introducing new resource-generating alien core units that function just like mining points. Players and organizations will be able to claim the core units and must defend them to continue reaping its benefits.
The team will also be rebalancing PvP with the addition of Stasis Weapons, which can be used to reduce the maximum velocity of target ships preventing them from easily escaping smaller and more agile pursuers. Players will be able to craft both Stasis Weapons and the special ammunition that they use.
In addition to Stasis Weapons, construct speeds will also be getting adjustments in the Athena update. “Constructs’ mass will now impact their speed; the heavier the ship, the less its maximum speed will be,” explains the devs. “Thus, smaller ships will be able to catch up bigger ones despite the latter having bigger engines than the former.”
Other key features of the update include a revamped new-player experience, a brand new Helios system map, various visual improvements, and the addition of the first space market in the game. “You’ll be able to shop without making planetfall, directly from your ship. Head to the center point of the safe zone, between Alioth, Madis and Thades. Happy shopping.”
