Electronic Arts’ Restructuring Efforts Will Lead To The Loss Of Hundreds Of Jobs

Electronic Arts has announced its plans to lay off 6% of its workforce as the company restructures itself to better align with its new focus on bolstering existing game communities. According to its CEO Andrew Wilson, the restructuring required management to cut out personnel and project that didn’t align with the company’s new vision.

“This is the most difficult part, and we are working through the process with the utmost care and respect,” Wilson said. “Where we can, we are providing opportunities for our colleagues to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we are providing severance pay and additional benefits such as health care and career transition services.”

EA’s portfolio includes several MMOs and live service games and have been shutting down studios over the past few months. According to the company’s report to the Securities and Exchange Commission, its expecting to incur roughly $170 million to $200 million in charges as part of its restructuring efforts.
