Electronic Arts Reports Over $7.4 Billion In Revenue For Fiscal Year 2023

Gaming behemoth Electronic Arts has published its fourth quarter and full-year 2023 fiscal year numbers, and the results are looking good. The report shows a slight increase in revenue year-on-year for both periods, with total revenue for the last quarter going up by 3% YOY to $1.87B and the total revenue for the full year going up by 6% YOY to $7.43B.

EA attributes much of this growth to live service games, which saw an 8% rise last quarter and a 10% rise for the entire year, while full price games saw revenues dip over the period. The FIFA franchise, Apex Legends, and The Sims 4 were identified as the primary drivers of live service revenue.

So what’s next for the company? EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that the company will continue to invest in “games as a platform” moving forward, with a focus on building games as a platform or content as a platform to drive long-term businesses. He specifically mentioned EA Sports FC, The Sims, Battlefield, Apex, Skate, and other properties in the portfolio as areas of focus.

Fans of single-player games needn’t worry though as Wilson also promised that the company will “follow up with a more focused, deliberate investment against telling blockbuster interactive stories.” Although, he did confirm that a large portion of the company’s investment will go into games made for large online communities.

EA's commitment to live service games is not surprising, given that it has proven to be a successful revenue driver for the company. Overall, it seems that EA is continuing to dominate the gaming industry and is positioning itself for long-term success. As gamers, we can look forward to more exciting releases from the company in the years to come.
