Elite Dangerous Update 15 Delayed To May, Console Copy Portal Still Re-Opening In April

Update 15. The update was originally set to go live in late April but has now been pushed back to sometime in May.

“Update 15 is set to build upon the narrative and unlock the next major stage of the Thargoid War. This will be among the biggest moments in the game to date and we’re excited to see how you react,” said Frontier Developments. “To allow the necessary time for development and ensure the update meets expectations, Update 15 will release in May. An exact date will be confirmed closer to the time.”

Unfortunately, the unexpected delay has thrown a wrench in Frontier Development’s update schedule, which means that the promised major feature rework coming in Update 16 has also been postponed.

“Last year we announced a major update that would rework a long standing feature,” said the studio. “This is still being investigated, however a number of changes (not least the Thargoid War itself) have required our attention as a priority. We will share details of this investigation and our plans towards the end of this year.”

The team has also closed applications for player-made factions as they shift their focus towards looking into new gameplay systems that will allow individual players and player groups to have a more significant impact on the on the galaxy’s dynamic landscape. They will, however, still be processing any remaining applications.

Additionally, Frontier has set the Live version of Elite Dangerous as the default on Steam while making the Legacy version as an optional . Existing Legacy players as well as those who want to try it out will need to re- the version while Live players can continue playing as is. The studio has also confirmed that the console copy portal is still on track to re-open in April for those who want to make the switch from the now-abandoned console version to PC.
