C Games Announces Another EVE Online FPS Project Called EVE Vanguard

EVE Online has had a long history of attempting to integrate first-person shooter elements into its universe. The concept of exploring planets within the New Eden universe on foot has been part of C Games’ vision for years, but previous attempts didn't quite hit the mark.

One of those attempts was DUST 514, a PlayStation 3 exclusive that launched in 2013. It unfortunately had limited connectivity with EVE Online and was eventually shut down in 2016 without a PC release.

Since then, the concept of an EVE Online FPS resurfaced under different project names like Project Legion and Project Nova. Selected fans and of the press were even able to get their hands on an early version of an EVE FPS in 2018 but it was ultimately scrapped like those that came before it. Now, C Games is back with another first-person shooter set in the same universe with a fresh approach and a new title: EVE Vanguard.

EVE Vanguard won't be a standalone game but is instead being described as “a new FPS module for EVE Online.” Developed primarily by C's London studio, it is tightly integrated into the overall EVE Online experience. Players will access Vanguard through the EVE Online launcher, and promises seamless integration with the sci-fi MMO right from the start.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Vanguard takes place on the planets of New Eden, focusing on areas around crashed ships that create volatile flashpoints. These areas are expected to be hotbeds for fights as various groups, including pirates, salvagers, and mercenaries all compete for valuable resources.

The core gameplay of Vanguard involves player squads deploying to these flashpoints on contracts to complete objectives, such as recovering sensitive data. Players will face NPC enemies, infiltrate crash sites, and extract using beacons. They can also loot equipment and materials during missions. While cooperation is possible, Vanguard remains a sandbox, allowing players to engage in betrayal and ambush tactics.

Vanguard will initially be asynchronously linked with EVE Online, and will require players to create separate characters. Completed contracts in Vanguard, however, will have an impact on the ongoing faction war in the original game, helping players secure their territory. Future plans include integrating industrial objectives and potentially allowing players to disrupt or steal resources tied to EVE's planetary industry.

Omega subscribers will get first access to Vanguard through the EVE launcher starting in December. The team will be kicking off a limited First Strike event on a single map that will allow subscribers to get a feel for the FPS gameplay and provide necessary .
