Hellgate: London Is Getting A VR Prequel Instead Of A Sequel

Hellgate: London is dead. Long live Hellgate: London!

That seems to be the only appropriate response to today's news. Sometimes, you have to take a step back and ask "I'm sorry, what?" Hellgate Global, the last surviving version of Hellgate: London, two teams are currently attempting to bring it back. Shortly after, we got this bizarre replacement, a mobile FPS in the style of games like House of the Dead, but with the core systems of your average mobile game.

Now, according to MMOCulture, we will be receiving a single-player Hellgate VR game, appropriately titled "Hellgate: London VR." The game is expected to launch on both PC and consoles "by early 2018." It will be launching in lieu of the Hellgate: London sequel that was reportedly canceled in 2014.

The VR game, crafted with Unreal Engine 4, will be set way back at the beginning of the demonic invasion. Players will be required to protect Hellgate: London protagonist Jessica Sumerisle, who is a child during the VR game.'

It's an odd choice, especially for a series that is traditionally online. While I have my reservations about the title, the initial screenshots look nice enough. It will be interesting to see if it will do well.
