Nielsen Holdings Shuts Down Video Game Market Data Analyst SuperData
SuperData is being shut down by parent company Nielsen Holdings after nearly 12 years of delivering video game-related market data to its online readers. The decision to shut down the data-reporting site is part of Nielsen’s plans to merge gaming services into Nielsen Sports.
“We have decided to wind down SuperData business operations,” a Nielsen representative told The Esports Observer. “Our focus going forward will be to deliver games-related services and insights as added features and capabilities to core Nielsen Sports products and services.”
SuperData is one of the few sites that provided the gaming community with data and insight into how new and popular PC, console, and mobile games performed compared to each other. The firm was bought by Nielsen Holdings in 2018. It’s still unclear whether employees were laid off in connection with the site’s closure.
