Old School RuneScape Talks Up Anti-Bot Measures And Warns Against Fake Varlamore Leaks
Earlier this month, RuneScape’s PvP-oriented Wilderness zone that players believed were made to benefit bot s as a way of padding the free-to-play MMORPG’s player numbers in light of its impending sale.
The studio is now hoping to put an end to those claims with a lengthy developer blog that goes into excruciating detail about its ongoing fight against bots and the anti-cheat measures it employs to help rid the game of illicit s. It also argued that the Wilderness and PvP updates were for the good of the “underserved” PvP players and that anti-bot measures shouldn’t include making the game more tedious or punishing for legitimate players.
“Sure, there are things we can do to make content harder to bot or make it ‘not worthwhile’ to bot (e.g. teleport delays, delays, skulling for loot, higher minimum fees) but these come at the detriment for regular players,” says Jagex, “It’s a delicate balance for us as a content team because we still want to deliver meaningful updates that serve players from all over the game.”
On the subject of illicit activities, some players are reportedly manipulating the in-game market and economy by creating fake Varlamore leaks from cached game assets and fake J-Mod statements. Jagex advises the community to take the leaks with a grain of salt as Varlamore is still deep in development and most of its content has yet to be finalized. Several of those leakers have already been banned, so be warned.
