Overwatch 2’s Aaron Keller Tries To Appease Players Over Scrapping Of PvE Content

scrapping a significant chunk of the hero shooter’s PvE content. The recent revelation that the studio decided to shift gears roughly a year and a half ago but only decided to tell everyone earlier this week only added fuel to an already raging fire.

In an effort to pacify players, Keller took to the official site to try to explain the situation. The explanation is still vague, but he does make it perfectly clear that PvE content will still be coming to the game, just not in the grandiose scope that was initially promised.

While we may not get to embark on heroic missions with each individual hero as originally envisioned, we’ll at least get to sink our teeth into new story missions. He also reiterated that their initial plans for PvE were just too big of an undertaking for the team.

He also explained why the announcement came later rather than sooner. “After Overwatch 2 had launched, we started refining our plans for future seasons,” he explained. “As those plans grew, we tried to find ways to make all of our ambitions fit together in a plan that we believed in. We couldn’t.”

“So, we made the difficult decision to cut Hero Missions and started planning for the future,” he added. “From there, we needed to update the vision for the game, gain confidence in our new direction and roll out the changes to the team. The decision was the start of a long process, not the final piece of it.”

If you’re part of the disgruntled crowd, Keller’s missive probably won’t do much to ease your disappointment. But, for those for those who mistakenly believed that all PvE content had gone up in smoke, it should offer you a faint glimmer of hope on the horizon.
