Pokemon Go Has Earned $1.2B In Revenue, Sees Drop In Playerbase
Pokemon Go on the world, capturing the hearts of millions of players young and old alike, and even breaking a few world records in the process. So how is one of the highest grossing apps in history faring a year after its release?
According to VentureBeat, Apptopia reports that Pokemon Go has earned $1.2 billion in total revenue. Unfortunately, around $950 million of that was revenue from 2016. The also showed a significant decline in their playerbase which peaked at 100 million last August and is now down to 60 million in June. The numbers might not be as high as when the game first went live a year ago but 60 million players and $250 million in revenue for the first half of 2017 proves that Pokemon Go is still holding its own.
Since the game launched in July 2016, Niantic has continually improved and tweaked the game which is probably the reason why players keep coming back. These included adding new Pokemon and overhauling the gym feature, along with special events and promotions held during popular holidays such as Christmas and Halloween. Just a few months ago over 80 Pokemon have been added to the ever-growing list of adorable pocket monsters. Check them out after the jump.
