RuneScape Is Offering A New Ultra-Rare Black Party Hat During This Year’s Christmas Event

The iconic party hats are making a comeback in RuneScape after more than 20 years when the classic free-to-play MMORPG kicks off its Christmas event tomorrow. The event will take place in the new Christmas Village seasonal hub which can be found in the Land of Snow and will only be open for the duration of the event.

For context, party hats were only available for 24 hours during Christmas day 2001 and are one of the rarest and most expensive tradeable items in the game. A party hat can easily go for tens of billions of gold pieces and has been regarded as a symbol of extreme wealth by the RuneScape community.

A black version of the coveted crown-like hat will be up for grabs as part of a weekly Christmas raffle of sorts. To be eligible for the raffle, you’ll need to earn at least 1 Nice Point per week by delivering three Letter’s to Santa per day, for a maximum of 7 Nice Points per week. The more points you have, the higher your chances of winning the ultra-rare drop.

The said letters can be obtained speaking to the NPC Clementine outside of Santa’s Lodge in the Christmas Village, completing all of the daily challenges, and by participating in various activities in the village such as ice fishing, crafting snowballs, and making festive decorations. A replacement letter can also be purchased from the event store if you missed one on a particular day.

“The lucky few (and we mean few - this item will be very rare!!) will set off a celebratory set of fireworks at the Lodge and an anonymized broadcast that a Black Party Hat dropped on that World,” Jagex explained. “Even if you're not lucky enough to get the Black Party Hat, everyone who earned a nice point that week will receive one of the Christmas cosmetic gifts from Santa!”

Players can also look forward to open a giant present on Christmas day and weekly stacking buffs starting on December 4th. The event itself begins tomorrow, November 27th, and will run until January 4th. Details can be found on the RuneScape official site.
