Steam Gets A Big Quality-Of-Life Update To Its Overlay System Featuring Sticky Notes
Valve has released a refreshed version of the Steam client, which has been in beta testing since late April. The update brings several changes, including improved code sharing across the Steam Desktop Client, Big Picture mode, and Steam Deck. While some changes aren’t immediately visible, s will notice updated dialogs, menus, fonts, colors, and various improvements to the in-game overlay.
The in-game overlay now features a new interface with a toolbar that provides quick access to a game’s achievements, guides, forum, friends list for chat, and a web browser. These elements can be pinned to the screen, allowing s to keep important information visible while playing games or multitasking without the need for a second screen.
Additionally, a new notes feature has been added to the overlay, enabling s to jot down important information and save it to the cloud. This can be useful for keeping track of console commands, reminders, or creating to-do lists while playing. It’s worth noting that the notes feature had previously been exploited by Counter-Strike players during the feature’s beta test to create ad hoc crosshairs, so it’s interesting to see what other exploits crafty players will come up with.
Other notable updates include the ability to customize notifications for wishlist sales and inventory items, an improved screenshot manager for easy viewing of ed and local screenshots, and the introduction of hardware acceleration for the Mac and Linux versions of Steam.
To the update, s can navigate to Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates in the menu. However, it may require a restart or two to ensure the update is successfully applied. While Valve continues to make Steam more -friendly, some quirks and minor issues may still persist.
