Wrath Of The Lich King Classic Pre-Patch Launch Sees Ridiculous Queues And A Buggy LFG Tool
A vast army of Horde and Alliance players have descended on last night. The mass influx of players resulted in horrific queues on both the existing and fresh start realm which, at one point, even reached over 34,000 players. That’s roughly 15 hours of wait time.
Naturally, this has caused a lot of grumbling and complaints, especially after the scheduled downtime already went on longer than expected. But for some, the queues were worth braving for the big dose of nostalgia that the expansion offered. Players even reminisced about the extreme lengths they had to go through just to get into the game when Wrath of the Lich King first launched nearly 15 years ago.
For those who managed to get in, however, their experience was spoiled by a buggy LFG tool which is intended to replace the original dungeon finder system that was removed from the expansion. Several players reported being automatically assigned a tank role regardless of what role they selected and disruptive UI changes when they did actually wanted to be a tank.
Without the dungeon finder system and a broken LFG tool, the LFG chat is now being spammed with messages from players looking to party up. In some ways, it makes the entire experience a faithful rendition of what it was like to play World of Warcraft back in 2008 but, and I believe I speak for every other player in the game, things would have been much better if they hadn’t removed the dungeon finder in the first place.
If you’d rather skip the early game and would rather start with a Death Knight, Blizzard is selling Northrend Heroic Upgrade character boosts that automatically brings one non-Death Knight character up to level 70 with corresponding gear and skills unlocked, faction and race-specific mounts, and a bit of gold to help you get off to a running start. The upgrades are available in $50 and $80 varieties with the exclusive Whalebone Glider flying mount included in the more expensive version.
You’ll find the schedule of events leading up to Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s official launch and the opening of Naxxramas and other endgame dungeons in the launch roap below.
