Apex Legends Overview
Apex Legends is EA's first foray into the Battle Royale genre. Set in the Titanfall universe and developed by Respawn Entertainment, Apex Legends launched without notice on Feb 4, 2019. The Source-engine based FPS adds several useful features to the genre but also s fewer players per match (60) than the leading games. Apex Legends includes several 'Legends', characters with unique styles and abilities. Players can unlock new Legends using in-game currency or cash purchases as they are released. The game is available free on both PC and consoles (PS4/XBO)

Development History / Background:
Apex Legends is the third game developed by Respawn Entertainment and is set in the same universe as the studio's Titanfall series. Apex Legends is the first game by Respawn since the studio was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017. Originally planned as the third installment of the Titanfall series, Respawn quietly shifted the project's focus in response to the rise of the Battle Royale genre. The game launched on February 4th, with no promotion leading up to the release. Conceived as a way to avoid bad publicity due to anti-lootbox sentiment during the game's development cycle, the strategy worked. The game reached 2.5 million s and 600,000 concurrent players 1 day after its release.
