Sandbox Interactive Is Pulling The Plug On Albion Online’s Crystal League PvP Tournament

Albion Online’s extremely popular Crystal League Championship had a good run but Sandbox Interactive has made the decision to pull the plug on the PvP tournament to encourage players to participate in other guild-related activities.

“We’ve seen some fantastic moments in these tournaments, and we truly appreciate the ion and joy with which our players took part,” the studio said. “But it’s time to move forward, and following this tournament the Lethal Crystal League will be removed from the game altogether. Furthermore, the Crystal League will no longer grant Season Points from the beginning of next season, in order to place a greater emphasis on other guild activities.”

The studio currently has no plans to replace the Crystal League Championship with a similar event, but they’re encouraging players to stage their own tournaments or other competitive matches with plans to add an observer mode in custom matches for would-be referees.

The reason for the removal of the tournament remains unclear as its one of the PvP sandbox MMORPG’s more popular events. It’s definitely not for lack of players since the game is still logging roughly 300,000 daily active s.

Naturally, the announcement has sparked outcry from players particularly with the removal of seasonal rewards in the non-lethal version of the tournament which will continue running for the foreseeable future. The community also expressed confusion on why Sandbox Interactive would remove one of the key small-scale PvP activities in the game.

The Crystal League Championship will have its final run on September 16-17 before it’s gone forever.
