ARK: Survival Evolved Deals With A Rough Official Launch
ARK: Survival Evolved has officially launched on Steam! Yey! Wait, what? It was still in Early Access all this time? The dino-taming sandbox crafting MMORPG had gotten a lot of flak from the gaming community because of its lengthy Early Access period. To be fair it’s only been over two years since the game first came out on Steam, but now the wait is finally over. There’s just the little matter of overpopulated servers to deal with though.
In a forum post yesterday, Studio Wildcard apologized to the community and assured everyone that they will be working to add more servers.
“As of now, we should have a number of new servers available for people to play on across all platforms, later tonight we'll be working on bringing on some more, as well as looking into whether we need to increase our numbers based on player activity, unfortunately the process is still going to be a long one, as it will have to be a manual setup as opposed to what we normally do. I don't suspect we will have any new servers coming online for the next 12 hours, but I will keep you posted as I learn new information.”
According to Kotaku, the problem started when Studio Wildcard decided to stop on Legacy servers. This prompted early access veterans to migrate to the new servers, which, when added to the massive influx of new players eventually led to overpopulation.
Aside from overcrowding, the devs also have to contend with a crash bug on the PS4 which they promised to fix today.
