BitCraft’s Top Brass Offers Insight On The Game’s Origin, Design, And Pre-Alpha Testing

Clockwork Labs CEO Tyler Cloutier and Game Director Carter Minshull shares more information about BitCraft in a new developer video. In the video, the game’s top brass talk about the social sandbox MMORPG’s origins, its overall gameplay design, and pre-alpha testing.

According to Cloutier, Clockwork Labs started out as a company called Sky Lab in 2017. They were originally working on a different project with no funding before they decided to shift their focus to a game that they’ve been developing in the background. That game would eventually became known as BitCraft.

The CEO also revealed that they’ve always planned to go with venture capitalist funding rather than the traditional publisher route. He also talked about the creation of backend tech for the game, specifically its in-house SpacetimeDB backend engine. The engine combines the functionality of a database and server into one and had its source code released for public use last month along with a cloud service for easier deployment to the cloud.

Minshull, on the other hand, talked about BitCraft’s overall design as well as its customizable co-op gameplay loops. He also reported the tenth pre-alpha test to be a resounding success as it stayed online longer than previous playtests and allowed testers to log over a hundred hours of playtime.

According to the game director, it was a clear indication that they’re on the right track as far as the gameplay loops are concerned. He, however, noted that they still have a lot of work to do before their vision for Bitcraft is fully realized. He also confirmed plans for another pre-alpha test in early 2024.

In the meantime, we’re still waiting on actual gameplay footage from the not-a-blockchain sandbox title.
