High-Ranking Developers At Cryptic Studios Are Apparently Looking To Jump Ship
Something ominous is afoot over at Neverwinter development team announced on LinkedIn yesterday that they were looking for new job opportunities.
These developers include senior game designer Jesse Heinig, senior technical artist Chris Penny, gameplay engineer David Nishball, and senior community manager Mike Fatum, a.k.a. Ambassador Kael. While it would be easy to assume that another round of layoffs might be the reason for their job hunt posts, Fatum was quick to assure the community that no changes are being made to the Cryptic teams at this time.
That being said, the departure of four key of the team has set alarm bells ringing in light of the $2 billion deal that its parent company, Embracer Group, failed to secure a few months ago. The botched deal resulted in a significant dip in the video game holding company’s stock prices which in turn led to a major restructuring and mass layoffs.
Embracer also revealed that it was considering selling Gearbox Entertainment, Cryptic included, and that several international gaming groups showing interest. The company’s plans to sell off Gearbox and Cryptic could potentially be the driving force behind the developers’ decision to look leave the studio.
We’ll keep you informed on any future developments.
To further clarify, none of the teams at Cryptic have changed at this time.
