Elite Dangerous Delays Odyssey Console Launch To Focus On PC Version
It’s been three months since the highly-awaited Odyssey expansion arrived in endless list of bugs and issues and missing features which didn’t sit well with the game’s community.
Since the expansion’s launch, Frontier Developments has been desperately trying to address issues and have released several hotfixes and updates. The community, however, isn’t happy with the team’s pace and their apparent lack of communication and have begun voicing their concerns on social media. A few frustrated players even went as far as harassing developers on their personal social media s. Frontier Developments didn’t take this lightly and threatened to ban players who harassed of the team on social media.
In light of these events, Frontier Developments CEO David Braben has decided to delay the Odyssey expansion’s release on consoles to allow the team to focus on fixing and improving the PC version.
“[. . .] We believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more,” said Braben. “We know that the work that we do to improve players’ experiences of Elite Dangerous Odyssey on PC will benefit other platforms in the future, but the dates and details of the console platforms are going to change. Only when we feel that the foundation of the PC release is solid, will we be able to re-lay our console roap on top.”
Braben also promised more game updates and fixes to come in the next few months which will not only address known issues but will also introduce new features, content, and improvements to the sci-fi MMORPG.
“We will continue to give open monthly development updates where we discuss WIP content, challenges, the issue tracker and more. We know that the previous levels of detail for the roap and developer update have not met expectations, but we are grateful for your patience while we shift and adjust plans, in the face of such clear ,” he said.
