Final Fantasy XIV Producer Says That He Got The NieR Producer And Director Drunk To Get A Crossover Raid

Final Fantasy XIV was for FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida to bribe NieR Producer Yosuke Saito and NieR Director Yoko Taro with steaks and wine. Lots and lots of wine. Yoshida recounts the events in a bonus episode of The Creation of Shadowbringers.

“Simply put, I personally wanted to do something with Saito-san and Yoko-san so I invited them for dinner without any sort of context,” said Yoshida. “We went and ate some delicious steak and, after opening about two bottles of red and white wine each, I decided to ask, ‘Would you like to work on something with me?’ I pretty much bribed them to do it!”

“We were very drunk at the time, so I don’t have any recollection of what happened,” joked Taro. “I did feel like we were being conned,” adds Saito.

Of course, fan requests for a crossover also played a big part in the decision. And since, crossover events aren’t necessarily new to MMOs, they decided to take the event one step further. Instead of simply introducing themed costumes, they went ahead and created a brand new raid and a storyline to go with it. Taro its that he’s mostly worked on console games and has never worked on an MMO before, but he’s proud of what they’ve accomplished.
