Firefall is Officially Dead, Servers Shut Down Today

Firefall, the long troubled and ambitious MMO shooter from Red5 Studios is officially dead. The game's servers are turning off for good sometime today. Red5 Studios posted on their site

With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that after much review and analysis, Red 5 Studios have decided to suspend the Firefall efforts on 7th, July 2017... Thank you for being an important part of the Firefall experience and for your loyalty and dedication to the online community.

Anyone who has followed the Firefall saga since its launch should have seen this one coming. The game hasn't posted a single news post on its official website in over a year. Firefall originally launched on July 29, 2014 but never achieved critical mass. According to Steamcharts the game has averaged less than 40 concurrent players at any given time over the last 3 months. It's always sad to see a game shut down, but alas this was

Despite the game's closure, the Firefall name will live on.... in the form of a mobile game. Red5 plans to launch a Firefall mobile game sometime in the future and all Firefall founders will be rewarded with in-game goodies when it launches. No word on a release date on that just yet.
