New World Explains How Loot Biasing Increases Your Odds Of Getting Useful Items
Random loot drops have been a mainstay of role-playing games since Dungeons & Dragons first popularized the genre 50 years ago. It not only brings an element of surprise to each mob or boss you kill or each chest you open, but also encourages you to keep playing until you finally obtain your desired items and gear.
In New World, obtaining those best-in-slot gear and rare items involves countless hours of killing the same boss, repeatedly playing through the same content, and a whole lot of disappointment.
To ease the grind, developer Amazon Game Studios recently introduced a loot biasing system that significantly increases your chance of getting useful items and gear by automatically removing less desirable options from the loot table, depending on the type of weapon and gear that you have equipped.
“Loot biasing is a system that gives you more loot geared towards your current character’s equipment,” Amazon explains. “It focuses on two of the biggest pain points for players—Attribute Perks and item type (things like armor weight class of armor and specific weapons).”
Amazon acknowledges that the new AI-controlled system is “a complex balancing act” with its own potential issues, such as your desired items being removed because you’re wearing a completely different set of gear from the one that you’re hunting for.
The key takeaway is that you still won’t see perfect drops, but the odds will now be significantly stacked in your favor. You can learn more about the new loot biasing system in this new dev blog.
