Overwatch 2 Disables Two Maps Due To A Critical Frame Rate Exploit

Overwatch 2 map as the frigid Antarctic Peninsula map, which was introduce in Season 3, s the sunnier Paraiso push map on the sidelines. The reason behind Antarctic Peninsula’s temporary removal is a glitch that can be exploited to make everyone’s frame rate drop to unplayable levels.

The glitch stems from an old bug specifically related to Genji’s ultimate ability that plagued the original Overwatch game. Players discovered that they could force-activate Genji's ultimate at the start of a round by repeatedly glitching out of the spawn room during the setup phase. This triggered a substantial drop in the frame rate of all players, including his own, rendering the match virtually unplayable.

The glitch has now reappeared in Overwatch 2, this time with Mercy as the culprit. By repeatedly breaking out of spawn, Mercy triggers a situation where she wields both her staff and pistol simultaneously. This causes the frame rate of all players in the match to significantly drop in addition to latency and interpolation delay spikes.

Adding to the frustration is that Mercy can switch back and forth between her staff and pistol, temporarily alleviating the issue on her end while she wreaks havoc on other players. While the glitch can be triggered on any map, it’s more noticeable on Paraiso and Antarctic Peninsula, prompting the devs to pull the maps from rotation.

“We have disabled the Paríaso and Antarctic Peninsula maps as we investigate an issue with performance when certain heroes are played,” announced Community Manager Craig Simpson on the official forums.

Unfortunately, there is no specific timeframe for when these maps will return to the hero shooter, but Simpson promises to release more information as they work to fix the issue.
