Overwatch 2 Is Shaking Things Up In Season 9 With Self-Healing Abilities For All Roles

Overwatch 2’s core gameplay with the launch of Season 9 later this month. The proverbial wrench will come in the form of self-healing abilities for tank and DPS heroes, a first in the seven-year history of the hero shooter.

“In Season 9, both Tank and Damage heroes will get a modified, tuned-down version of the self-healing ive,” Blizzard explains. “This should give non- players more options in of sustaining themselves. It should also take some of the pressure off players to keep everyone alive since individual players now have more control of their own health pool.”

In a game that’s supposedly focused on teamwork, the change will blur the line between each of the three roles. By how much remains to be seen, although the developers will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the meta to make adjustments as necessary.

“We still want Overwatch to be defined by team strategy and mechanics, but we feel this can be pulled back a bit now and possibly more in the future,” said the devs.

Season 9 will also introduce a long list of smaller gameplay and balance changes, most of which are aimed at reducing damage spikes during combat. The team promises to dive into those changes in a future post.
