RuneScape’s Wilderness Zone Has Been Reverted Back To A PvP-Centric Location

Last year, RuneScape’s PvP-centered Wilderness zone to a challenging, but equally rewarding PvM zone. The studio, however, has itted that players didn’t like the change and have decided to return the zone to the way it was prior to the update.

“The Wilderness was always intended as a high-risk, high-reward area. When we removed PVP, we wanted to keep that element of danger to justify the more rewarding activities found there,” Jagex explained. “It was an experiment in whether PVM could achieve the same feeling of unpredictable risk, and the answer, at least for this version, has turned out to be no.”

“It's possible a different implementation could have different results, but we've seen very little interest from players in actually wanting that kind of gameplay, with most either treating it as a nuisance, or just an opportunity for even faster, more aggressive spawns to kill,” the team added.

With that in mind, Jagex has removed the Threat Mechanic from the Wilderness zone, as well as the Cursed Wisps that were originally in the area prior to the update but are being abused by players to lure others into a fight. The zone itself will stay in its current location.
