Star Trek Online’s Odyssey Class Enterprise-F Is Now Part Of Star Trek Canon
The newest trailer for Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season featured a big surprise for both fans of the Star Trek franchise and players of Star Trek Online. Amid snippets of returning characters gathering for one final voyage to the final frontier is a brief shot of a ship that players of the MMORPG will probably be familiar with – the Odyssey Class Enterprise-F.
This is significant for players and the larger Start Trek universe in general because its one of the rare instances in the gaming industry where a player-designed asset has become part of official canon, and in a very popular franchise at that.
The Enterprise-F, a.k.a. NCC 1701-F, was the winning entry in a fan design contest back in 2011 and was created by book illustrator Adam Ihle, who tweeted, “Don’t like Enterprise F? Well, you can hate it all you want and I’ll be over here enjoying being a part of canon Star Trek history.”
