The Repopulation Monthly Update Talks About Servers, Art, And Island Work
The Repopulation Monthly Dev Update just came out earlier this week, on April Fool’s Day no less. Don’t worry, Idea Fabrik assured fans that they won’t be pranking anyone but did tease that they had “a few tricks and treats” squirreled away for later. First up on the March Update agenda is the status of the ongoing server updates:
“New servers were finished, we are about 65% through converting and updating repop to work with the new updated dev server. This progress will continue until the conversion is done. [. . .] Some of the major work is updating files that will allow the current version of Repop to communicate correctly with the servers and back to the client. The area we were focused on at the end of last month was Engine/Dev Client communication and ABT’s file structure. This month we are focusing on Client, s and character (player client) communications.”
The devs are also working on optimizing the in-game art, transitioning from old art assets to new or updated ones that will have less impact on game performance and player experience. The devs are also continuing work on the game’s island. “It has been an exciting build phase for us this month. White boxes are being replaced with assets, the terrain base paint is coming along,” says Idea Fabrik. “It's almost strange to go from simplistic white cubes and flat terrain to sculpted features and assets. The world is developing before our eyes and we can't help but be excited.”
